Mailuna: A Sublime Blanc de Noirs from the Mountains of Piedmont
With “Mailuna”, Casavecchia presents an Alta Langa DOCG of the highest caliber. While many sparkling wines are blended with Chardonnay, Mailuna is a pure Blanc de Noirs—a white sparkling wine crafted exclusively from the demanding and noble Pinot Noir grape (Pinot Nero). This gives the wine unparalleled depth, a firmer structure, and a complexity that firmly places it in the league of the finest bottles from Champagne.
Craftsmanship, Patience, and Uncompromising Extra Brut
The grapes are meticulously hand-harvested from high-altitude, cool-climate vineyards in Piedmont, ensuring vital, crisp acidity. After primary fermentation, the wine undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle using the traditional Metodo Classico and rests on the lees for a minimum of 30 months in dark cellars. As an Extra Brut (with minimal dosage of residual sugar), the wine presents itself completely pure, focused, and honest. Nothing is hidden here: it is the pure essence of the terroir and the natural power of Pinot Noir shining in the glass.
Tasting Profile
-
Color: Beautiful straw-yellow with subtle golden highlights and an extremely fine, persistent stream of microscopic bubbles.
-
Nose: Complex, deep, and inviting. The nose opens with rich aromas of toasted hazelnuts, brioche, and freshly baked crust, beautifully complemented by delicate undertones of wild red berries (raspberries and redcurrants), red apples, and a mineral scent of crushed limestone.
-
Palate: Powerful, vertical, and fabulously balanced on the palate. The intense structure of the Pinot Noir grape feels creamy, yet is kept tightly in check by a bone-dry, razor-sharp acidity. The finish is remarkably long and clean, leaving a salty minerality alongside fresh hints of citrus and dried fruit.
