A Rare Tuscan Gem from the Dal Cero Family
The Canaiolo grape is best known as the faithful partner to Sangiovese in classic Chianti wines, where it adds softness and color. However, at Tenuta Montecchiesi in Tuscany, the Dal Cero family created Vertigine—a rare and bold tribute to this variety, showcasing it in a brilliant 100% monovarietal expression. The name “Vertigine” (meaning vertigo or dizziness) refers to the breathtaking, intoxicating experience of tasting this grape’s true and unadulterated potential.
Elegant Aging Respecting the Grape’s Character
The grapes are cultivated in the family’s beautiful vineyards in the Cortona area of southern Tuscany, where the soil is rich in clay and schist. Following a strict selection of the finest, fully ripened bunches, the grapes are gently pressed. To preserve the Canaiolo grape’s natural elegance, fine fruit, and floral nuances, the wine is aged with great precision in a combination of temperature-controlled tanks and subsequent French oak barrels. This produces a red wine with marvelous structure, without oak ever overpowering the delicate fruit.
